Mon Ducky Race - 8/9/2014

The sixth annual Mon Ducky Race was held Saturday afternoon at the Brownsville Riverside Wharf. Participants were invited to "adopt a duck" for $5 and race them down the Monongahela River. The race was funded by the Brownsville Area Revitalization Corporation to raise money for economic development.

Saint Patrick's Day Celebrations - 3/16/2014

For the past 20 years, the Barry family of Brownsville, Pa. has celebrated their Irish heritage with a private family celebration on St. Patrick's Day. The event draws 300 family members every year and takes several weeks of preparation.

Ron Barry displays the family crest which was brought over from Ireland by his uncle. The inscription at the bottom is French for "push forward."

Proudly sporting his traditional Irish tweed cap, Ron Barry of Brownsville displays a "shilelagh" which is an Irish blackthorn walking stick.

Weekend Features - 9/16/2012

Valerie Thistlethwaite feeds her tuxedo cat Hanna at her Brownsville home Sunday afternoon. Thistlethwaite is a finalist in the Purina Cat Chow Real Stories Project which is a national contest that seeks out the best people/pet combinations. Thistlethwait became a finalist in the "What My Cat Means to Me" category with her short essay dedicated to her late cat Misty who passed away earlier this year. Before her passing, Misty adopted Hanna as her own and Thistlethwaite discovered that cats can mourn as well since Hanna did just that after Misty was out to sleep. The essay ends with "My Misty- I Love You!"
